So how do you go about entering this giveaway? Here's what to do...
The aim of the game is to promote Irish business and gluten free brands that are available in Ireland - these brands don't necessarily have to be Irish.
Step 1
First, you have to 'like' my facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/TheGlutenFreePhotographer and/or 'follow' my blog - points at right hand side of this page at the 'Followers' section.
Step 2
Then either e-mail me at glutenfreephotos@gmail.com, post a comment on my facebook page or comment on this blog post with a suggestion of either a gluten free/coeliac friendly brand that has not already been featured in my 'Off The Shelf' page AND/OR name a restaurant/café/hotel/B&B/bakery/catering service anywhere in the 32 counties of Ireland, that is great for coeliacs and is not already featured on my 'Eat Out' page. I'm not talking about somewhere that only has a salad or omelette on the menu that is listed as a dish that is coeliac friendly, or a café that may have a piece of brownie or one piece of cake that is suitable for coeliacs - what you recommend has to be genuinely coeliac superb. A place or service that really is fantastic for the gluten free foodie, with a wide range of menu options or services for the coeliac or gluten intolerant.
If you are already following my blog or you are on my facebook page, you can enter by just submitting your suggestion to me, as above.
I'm going to run this competition for 2 weeks and everyone who enters will be automatically put into a draw and the winners of the hampers will be decided from that.
Closing date will be Friday 20th May 2011. The four lucky winners will be announced on Saturday 21st May 2011. Only one entry per person.

what a great competition!
ReplyDeleteDoves Farm is a great brand with loads of coeliac friendly products and are really good value for money and a really high quality product. great for cakes and the like!

Hi Katie,

ReplyDeleteCheers Katie, appreciate the support :) x
ReplyDeletei follow you via GFC; I LOVE mary's gone crackers products! they are gluten free seed crackers
ReplyDeleteHi Kel, I've been your follower for a while now. I moved to Dublin from the Czech Republic 3 1/2 years ago and I found it very difficult to get a gluten free lunch as Ireland is a world of sandwiches, but thanks to Itsabagel I can have nice lunch when I am too lazy to cook, their gluten free bagels are just yummy. I miss the brand called Dr. Schar here a lot, they do amazing stuff, pasta, flour mixes, bread pastry, all very good quality and very tasty!
ReplyDeleteGreat competition!
ReplyDeleteOn the catering end of things, I can thoroughly recommend Barbara Russell Catering in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary and Crowe's Farm in Dundrum, Co. Tipperary.
We'd a massive family shindig in Tipperary last summer and we asked Crowes to provide spit roast piggies, and Barbara Russell to provide a multitude of salads - we wanted everything coeliac friendly. Crowe's did one pig with stuffing (not coeliac friendly, but we couldn't resist) and one pig without. Every single salad Barbara Russell provided was suitable for coeliacs - and she made and prepped everything, down to the mayo herself - which significantly eased our concerns of potential cross-contamination from the use of store-bought ingredients.
I dream of that food, it was so tasty. I couldn't recommend either of them more, and not only from a gluten-free perspective, but from the seriously-nom perspective :)

Hi Kel, lovely comp and great site. Found you via IFBA. My recommendation is Cathy's Spelt for Health - a range of low gluten baking mixes including a range of breads and goodies like flapjacks and scones. Very delicious.
ReplyDeleteCathy sees the silver lining - her business came about as a very positive response to a severe allergic reaction that put her in hospital.
Hi Kel, have just discovered this & I am delighted as my mam is coeliac & finds it very hard to find places with a GF menu. Cafe Mao in Dundrum Town Centre has a seperate GF menu which is great. there is also a pizza place
ReplyDeletesorry i didn't finish, but there is a pizza place just off aungier street / george's street that has a full pizza / pasta menu for coeliacs. Also Flanagans on O'Connell street have a coeliac menu, my mam loves their spaghetti bolognese
ReplyDeleteLyons cafe in Sligo have a wide range of treats available that are suitable for coeliacs. They have also just opened a new cafe in The Model arts gallery in Sligo too :)
ReplyDeleteLovely photo's by the way.
You have to try Rathmullan House in Donegal on the shores of lough swilly , gorgeous coeliac friendly food in fabulous surroundings. We had two coeliac diners in our party and both had fantastic meals . The chef is very helpful . Highly reccomend for a special occasion .
ReplyDeleteThere's a lovely restaurant in Lucan called Pregos, the menu has both normal and gluten free option for nearly all of their Italian food. It's reasonably priced and has a good early bird on too. Draiocht in blanchadstown shopping centre has gluten free bread and soups, they are lovely too
ReplyDeleteNibbles Food Emporium in Millstreet, Co. Cork has a fab range of gluten free produce. Eleanor Leahy bakes gorgeous brown bread, scones, queen cakes etc all from wonderful local ingredients. As well as in Millstreet, the range can be bought at Farmers Markets in Macroom, Ballincollig, Bishopstown, Douglas, and Rathmore.
ReplyDeleteFenn's Quay, Cork is a great and safe dining experience for Coeliacs who need not worry about their choice of food here. Fenn's Quay will accommodate without difficulty and source all their products locally. Comes highly recommended.
ReplyDeleteI can definitely recommend Bru in Drogheda, Co Louth, not just the coeliac friendly menu but also the fantastic views over the river.
ReplyDeleteCava Spanish Restaurant and Tapas Bar on Dominick Street in Galway has amazing food for coeliacs. They indicate on the menu what dishes contain wheat and are so accommodating to any dietary needs. They have a huge selection for coeliacs so would definitely recommend it to any visitors to Galway.
ReplyDeleteThe Port House Ibéricos in Dundrum Town Centre and I think they have one in town too. It was great to eat there last week as its a Tapas bar there were so many different dishes to try in the one meal and not just one GF dish as per usual. Really tasty and not expensive. Also Richie's Bar and Bistro in Clonakilty in Cork is amazing. Lots of GF choices and its good to know that he uses mostly local produce. He also gives great classes and will give you great pointers and tips on any kind of restrictive diet. Love this blog.Really happy to have found it!
ReplyDeleteThe Mill Restaurant, Dunfanaghy, Donegal is really good for we coeliacs-it restored my faith in gluten free products! I buy most of my gluten free products from ecodirect.ie-none of the shops where I live sell gluten free products. I dont mind the taste because whenever I wasn't coeliac I used to eat gluten free foods anyway- I didn't discriminate against any kind of food in the fridge! :) ('m Ali Dee on facebook by the way :)
ReplyDeleteAzur Restaurant, Georges Quay, Limerick caters for ceoliacs as the sauces he uses are all made in house and are gluten free.
ReplyDeleteBamboo Restaurant, O'Connels Street, Limerick now doing gluten free pizza's and are Yum!
The Lazy Bean Café in Cahir do a range of Gluten free dishes along with breads etc. They are very nice. Also the best Bread we have come accross bread in Dunnes Store called Genius which is lovely and the closest to real bread we have found. Also Harvest cornflakes.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to recommend 2 new jam manufacturers who are located quite close to me. One is stocked in Super Valu - www.clarkesfreshfruit.ie Clarkes Fresh Fruit. They are from Stamullen have just launched their new range of jams.
ReplyDeleteAlso Jamanana in Donabate - www.jamanana.ie - also a new manufacturer and a new business. Both believe in using fresh local and ethically sourced produce.
Brilliant competition!
ReplyDeleteDelicious.ie do lots of great Gluten free bakery products and the Betelnut Café at Draíocht do lovely Gluten free lunches especially the soup and bread!
Brilliant competition, Kel.
ReplyDeleteI've got a couple of recommendations.
The first is the Asian Market on Drury Street, Dublin.
They have a huge variety of spices, seasonings, seeds and nuts at a fraction of the price you'd pay in supermarkets. What's more, even at the cheaper prices, you usually get many times more in the bag than you would when buying in the local Tesco, etc.
They stock a vast selection of noodles, including rice noodles, again in packs that will keep you going for quite a while.
You can get large bags of pretty much any kind of rice (sack of spuds size!), and once again, for really cheap prices when compared to the supermarkets.
If you're a sushi fan, you'll find sushi rice, and plenty of dried seaweed sheets so you can make your own nori rolls at home.
I can't remember offhand, but they may stock tamari (gluten free soy), and they also stock shao hsing (rice wine, a splash of which transforms a stir-fry/noodle dish) which I'm pretty sure is gluten free, but worth checking the bottle.
My second recommendation is Knorr Stock Pots.
Readily available in supermarkets, you can get chicken, beef or vegetable.
All are gluten free. They're jellified stock and dissolve easily in water.
With stock cubes, you'll usually have to check the packet to see if the ingredients are gluten free. The stock pots make a fairly blatant point of announcing that they're coeliac friendly on the packaging, and are without doubt one of the best instant stock products out there.
A restaurant I'd recommend is the Chameleon on Lower Fownes Street, I have eaten there three times since having to go gluten free and never had any trouble or reaction, they have a gluten free menu (http://www.chameleonrestaurant.com/coeliac-menu.html) and will adapt if you want something slightly different. The waitress was careful to ensure we knew what we both could eat and what was unsafe for me!
ReplyDeleteGookies are a gluten free, wheat free cookie dough that comes in 3 flavours, milk choc chip, triple choc chip and cranberry&white chocolate. They are made by Muriel Coughlan in East Cork. Muriel has been a coeliac for over 4 years and is approved by the local health board and the Coeliac Society of Ireland. You can check out Gookies on Facebook. Gookies are available to buy in Super Valu Midleton & Blackrock in Cork, Urru in Bandon, Rohu in Innishannon, Nelly's Pantry on the Bishopstown Rd, Cork, The Hapy Pear in Greystones, On the Pigs Back Douglas. You can also buy Gookies on www.localmarkets.ie, there's free delivery to new customers until May 17th. They are really yummy cookies.
ReplyDeleteThe Yard, Georges Street, Wexford Town is a great restaurant and caters really well for coeliacs. It's one of my favourites at the minute. Hghly recommended!
ReplyDeleteGreat gluten free suggestions - keep 'em coming! Thank you to everyone who has entered so far - just brilliant :)
ReplyDeleteFantastic gluten free recommendations from everyone! Keep 'em coming :)
ReplyDeleteI am following your blog on twitter- I am siobhanyxo :)
ReplyDeleteHaving being "cursed" with coeliacs, I have tried zillions of restaurants, and often scorned at their sad attempts too make food for us minority of coeliacs! However, I really do think that it has improved over the years. I love the Tamarind resturant in Galway- I think it is my all time favourite! I also m a really big fan of the Jamuna restaurant in Meath0yum!
I really applaud how supermarkets are selling coeliac products nowadays (nothing to do with profits obviously ;) ) and now I find it relatively easy to find food, although I do buy most of mine from www.coeliac.ie- there is a really great selection and the food is also yum! ;)
So today's the last day for the giveaway! Competition closes at 7:00pm this evening. I am overwhelmed by all the amazing suggestions and recommendations that have been sent in - I wish you all good luck for the draw. Winners will be announced tomorrow. Keep an eye on my blog here and my facebook page to find out who they are.
ReplyDeleteKoh Restaurant on the Millennium Walkway in Dublin is really tasty - and they're very good for catering for coeliacs. All noodle dishes (as far as I remember) are automatically coeliac-friendly and their rice dishes can be made up gluten-free... doesn't hurt that their cocktails are amazing too! Nom nom...
ReplyDeleteThis competition is now closed - thank you to everyone who has entered. Winners will be announced tomorrow. Good Luck!!
